Learning – one must borrow money knowing the loan and interest period, pay back terms and conditions and seek resolution in situations when you are unable to pay or feel cheated
The movie starts with the story where the lead characters borrowed money for their wedding from a money lender and the conditions of borrowing were disputed leaving them at mercy of the panchayat, which decided that they should pay ¾ of the crop as interest for a loan of 500 rupees.
Learning – Don’t be like the characters in the movies. Always read the terms of loan like repayment method, time period, collateral required – before signing up for loan. Also, go to formal institutions as they are governed by regulatory bodies – easier to resolve issues
A cruel Money lender for his own vested interest gives a day’s time to pay back the loan or else confiscate the land. The loan amount was 65 rupees but the money lender fudged the record and proved himself to be right and legal. The loan taker had only three month’s time to repay the fudged amount as he had no other collateral to prove his innocence.
Learning – Always check documentation of the loan, read the fine prints properly before signing. The interest amount cannot be higher than the loan amount.
