What is Smishing?

Smishing is an SMS fraud. Cyber attackers send malicious links through text messages to your mobile phones and trick you into providing personal information, such as your bank account, login details, passwords, and PIN codes.

Smishing messages often force you to click on the link by:

  • Creating fear by stating your bank account might be deleted, or

  • Trying to excite you by saying you have won a lottery so that you click the link

  • Gain your trust by pretending to be your friend or relative

Once you click on the link, it will:

  • Icon

Redirect the target to a fake website

  • Icon

Install malware into your devices, which only the attacker can fix for a sum of money
