Once, I wanted to send ₹1000 to my younger sister. She was staying in a hostel in Delhi. I had to send her money as soon as possible to buy some books.Â
I tried to transfer money with the help of USSD, but my payment failed.Â
Then, I checked my account. I found that there was Rs.988 in my account. So, I had Rs.12 in my purse.Â
I asked the bank agent to put that money into my account, but that also failed.Â
What could be the reason, and how would you deal with the situation if you were at Rekha’s place?
Let us look at our possible options and de-construct each of them-
Option 1 : I will go home and come back another day to send money to my sister
This is the wrong answer because sending money to your sister is urgent and important
Option 2: I would leave the transaction there and go to the bank and transfer the money
This is the wrong answer because you were doing USSD as you didn’t remember your bank details
Option 3: I would blame the banking agent and file a complaint against him/her
This is the wrong answer because there can be many factors that can lead to the failure of USSD payments, and it’s not necessarily the agent’s fault
Option 4: I will check if all the basic things required for USSD payments, like minimum mobile balance, mobile network signal etc. are there with me.
This is the correct answer because USSD transactions can fail if you do not have a balance on your mobile phone or if there’s no mobile network.
