Skimming

What is Card Skimming?

Card Skimming is a method of placing a data transferring device on top of the card slot in ATM machines, and card reading machines at point of sale purchases.

How to avoid card skimming?

  • Pull the card reader to check if it is loose

  • Check for any marks, glue stains, scratches around the ATM card slot

  • Compare the ATM machine next to it to see if the card slots look the same

  • Use ATMs that are indoors or in a secure location

It can be hard to check for card skimmers at PoS machines, however we can stay safe by using ATM cards for One-Tap Payments instead.
