When to File a Complaint with the RBI?

When deciding to file a complaint with the RBI, keep the following in mind:

You should complain to the bank manager before filing a complaint with the RBI.

File a complaint with the RBI if:

  • 30 days have passed since your complaint to the bank manager, or
  • The solution from the bank is not satisfactory

numberYou can complain to the RBI only if there is a deficiency of service.

This is a very important condition.

You cannot complain if the grievance is due to any of these situations:

  • Revealing your OTP, PIN, passwords to others
  • Transferring money to a wrong person by giving wrong account details
  • Unintentionally transferring money from your account

numberYou cannot make a complaint to the RBI against a bank or its employee’s actions if a court order or the law authorised them to do it.

These are very specific conditions but worth paying attention to.
